About the book...

This fun book highlights the playfulness of our English language.  It focuses on "idioms".  What are idioms you may ask?  An idiom  is a word or phrase which means something different from its literal meaning.

This book will give a young child a good handle on what an idiom is.  Each one is presented in text and visually and then the real meanings are provided upside down in the corner of each double page spread.  (I just wish that font for the meanings had been  bigger because they are a little hard to decipher.  Maybe I'm just old but for me I would have preferred them a bit larger).

Kids will get a kick out of seeing what it looks like when it's "raining cats and dogs", when you're "bringing home the bacon", and acting like a "bull in a china shop," just to name a few.  The silliness of it all will bring giggles I'm sure.

The illustrations are quirky, full of action and humour.  They will delight the reader with their absurdity.  It's always fun to play isn't it?  To play with words and our language is the best fun ever.

There is a more comprehensive explanation of idioms featured at the back of the book.  I think this book would be a wonderful addition to any classroom or library.  When it comes to explaining the meaning and understanding of an idiom this book hits the nail on the head.
